Program Lead: Alex Verma
Alexandra Verma is a Palestinian-Indian-Chilean multidisciplinary artist and Palestinian cultural educator born and raised in Toronto, Canada. Her artistic practice is centred on storytelling and utilising art as a catalyst for change. Growing up, Palestinian culture was ingrained in her everyday life. Alexandra began practising Tatreez (the endangered art of Palestinian embroidery) in 2017 and started teaching in 2024, educating individuals across Canada in this UNESCO-recognised practice of intangible cultural Heritage.
A storyteller at heart, Alexandra is determined to tell the stories of her people beyond the simplistic Western narrative of “the oppressed” through art.
