Panela

Image Description: There’s an interior and an exterior to the Panela factory in Nariño, the southwestern most corner of Colombia. This is Abya Yala land, the reclaimed name of Colombia. Inside, light shines brightly through white tarps. Terracotta tiles line the ground, a matching wall paint on the lower half of the walls. A buttery yellow and mint green color scheme add light above. Outside, a metal corrugated roof is situated atop brick supports, creating an open shed containing the raw sugar cane from the fields.
